When I was in Brazil a couple of years ago, I learnt the Portuguese word “Despachante”. According to Robert Eugene DiPaolo mentioned in his column back to 2007 “The Despachante“, it means:
If you look up the word “despachante” in a Portuguese/English dictionary, it is generally defined as a “shipping agent,” a “document agent” or a “customs agent”; however this term is more broadly used to refer to the middleman or facilitator of business transactions of all sorts.
A middleman to get things done efficiently, that means, generating value. It is exactly what PLASTIQ does.
There are always somewhere we cannot pay bills by credit cards. In my situation, events do not accept credit cards such as my apartment rent, gym and personal trainer, clinic, and my business school tuition fees. Yes, the tuition fees inspired the Harvard undergraduate student Eliot Buchanan to do something to be the middleman.
We as the PLASTIQ users, pay them by credit card, then PLASTIQ pay the gym or school by bank transfer or cheque. Simple but brilliant idea.
